1. India and Japan to conduct DRR under bilateral cooperation
Major Highlights:
- Under the strengthening of bilateral ties of India and Japan will participate in a workshop of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), especially for earthquakes.
- In a two day workshop, around 120 government delegates from the two countries, educational institutes, specialized disaster management agencies and many organizations will participate.
- This workshop is being jointly organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs, National Disaster Management Authority, India and Government of Japan.
2. The Lok Sabha passes Gratuity Amendment bill
Major Highlights:
- The Lok Sabha has given clean chit to the Gratuity Bill which empowers the government for a fix period of maternity leave.
- The Bill removes the existing ceiling of Rs 10 lakh amount of gratuity payable to an employee and can be notified by the central government.
- The Bill removes the reference to 12 weeks in Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 and empowers central government to notify the maximum maternity leave.
3. US is India’s 2nd biggest arms supplier
Major Highlights:
- In the reports released by Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, US has been found rapidly increased arm service provider to India.
- US is the second biggest supplier to India by providing 15% of weapon import.
- Israel has moved to third spot by imports of 11% for the duration of 2013-17.
- Overall, India is ranked as the world largest importer of major arms accounting for 12 per cent of the total global imports.
4. Putin to lead Russia for next 6 years
Major Highlights:
- In Russian Presidential Election held on Sunday, Vladimir Putin secured the victory by winning 75.91 votes overall, as shown by CEC (Central Election Commission).
- He has won elections against Alexei Navalny.
- Earlier Putin as marked victory in 2012 by 64 per cent and for this year raised the bar for ruling next 6 years.
5. Purva Barve clinches Israel Junior badminton tournament
Major Highlights:
- Rising champion Purva Barve bags singles (Under-19) title at the Israel Junior 2018.
- Purva won the match against top ranked Russian Anastasiia Pustinskaia being held in ishon LeZion.
- Winning the Israel Junior badminton tournament is her third international title overall including Earlier she won the Israel Junior 2017, Italian Junior International 2017.
