1. 11th May, Legendary Indian Classical Dancer Mrinalini Sarabhai’s Birthday
Major Highlights:
- Today is noted danseuse and Padma Bhushan recipient Mrinalini Sarabhai’s 100th birthday.
- Mrinalini was trained in Bharatnatyam, Kathakali and Mohiniyattom was the founder of Darpana Academy of Performing Arts.
- She has been awarded with national civilian awards Padma Bhushan in 1992 and the Padma Shri in 1965 and the the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship in 1964.
2. Vice President Venkaiah Naidu arrives in Peru
Major Highlights:
- On the third leg of visit to Central America, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu has arrived to Peru.
- Both the counties will review bilateral relations including Trade and Commerce, Investments, Information Technology, Capacity building, Traditional medicines, Space, Defence, Culture and others.
- The Vice President will also visit the Congress of Peru and will meet with President of the Congress and members of the India -Peru Parliamentary Friendship League.
3. Australia to fund new consulate in Kolkata
Major Highlights:
- Australia has decided to fund a new Consulate-General in Kolkata and extend the Australia- India Strategic Research Fund.
- The opening of the Consulate General in Kolkata will take the total number of Australia’s diplomatic posts in India to four.
- Under new measures $20 million will be provided over the next four years to enhance Australian innovation in Asia under the existing Global Innovation Strategy of the National Innovation and Science Agenda.
4. IAF conducts first online selection test
Major Highlights:
- The Indian Air Force has successfully conducted its first online selection test for airmen with the Digital India Initiative of the government.
- The first ever Scheduled Test for Airmen Recruitment (STAR) in collaboration with Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), Pune, functioning under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
- The online examination was successfully conducted at 439 centres spread over 102 cities across the country.
